Obituary of ARTHUR LEVINE

Obituary of ARTHUR LEVINE Arthur Levine (age 96), one of the Greatest Generation, passed away peacefully on March 2nd 2021. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born and raised in New Brunswick NJ and left high school during his senior year to enlist in the US Navy. Arthur served honorably and courageously as a gunner’s mate on LCI(R)-337, participating in eight beach landings during the liberation of the Philippines and Borneo. One of his proudest memories of his time in the service was his ships rescue of 178 sailors adrift following the Battle off Samar as well as taking out an enemy bomber heading for his ship. He returned from the war to New Brunswick where he was employed as a lathe operator at New Brunswick Tool and Die (New Brunswick Scientific). He later owned and operated, with his brother Herb, the Corner Tavern in Perth Amboy NJ for almost 30 years. He met his wife Sybil at a singles dance in Newark and they married on New Year’s Day, 1956. They then moved to Highland Park where they raised their family for over 25 years before retiring and moving to the Clearbrook Community in Monroe. They enjoyed spending summers with the family on Long Beach Island and in retirement, traveling throughout the US and Canada. He is predeceased by his wife of 59 years Sybil and his son Jason. He is survived by his sons Alan (Karen) Levine of St. Peterburg FL and Marc (Jodi) Levine of Berkeley Heights NJ. Grandchildren Jamie Levine, Matthew Levine, Brian Levine, Aaron Levine. Great-grandchildren Gannon Anderson, Jax Levine and Scarlett Levine. Memorial contributions may be made in Arthur’s memory to God’s Love We Deliver or to The Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains NJ.
