Obituary of David Lipton

David L. Lipton, a highly regarded professor at a number of institutions including Middlesex County College and University of Management & Technology, passed away from leukemia-related complications on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Center for Hope Hospice & Palliative Care in Scotch Plains, NJ. A skilled researcher with a phenomenal memory and a passion for Antarctic history, he was the author of A World Ethnohistory of the Antarctic Region During the Early Modern Era, History's Philosophy Through Debates, Premodern Antarctic World Ethnohistory, Thoughts on the Globalization of World History, and Some Ideas About the Far South Before the Western European Age of Discovery. He held two M.A. degrees in History, one with a concentration in American History from Rutgers University and New Jersey Institute of Technology, and the other with a concentration in Global History from American Military University; as well as a B.A. in History from Jersey City State College, graduating Summa cum Laude with the distinction of National Dean’s List and member of the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society. Previously, he earned a B.A. in English and a M.S. in Computer Science at San Francisco State University. He enjoyed exploring alternate history themes and experimenting with a variety of poetic forms. David was born September 1, 1954 in Plainfield, NJ, the son of Dr. Maurice R. Lipton and Miriam G. (Segal) Lipton. He is survived by his sister Carol (Paris, France), his brother Alan (Berkeley, CA), and their families.
