Debbi was always up for anything. Our cruises, sped dinners, Hailey’s Pub to listen to our former colleague, enjoying her retirement. Her last year before retiring she taught “the boys” with me. She always had interesting ideas - “the boys” were so proud of their spinal cords made out of candy. They didn’t want to eat the candy. They wanted to take it home to show their parents. And her sign off to that group that they always remembered was that she would say, “I’m just trying to save the world.”. She will be missed. I’d like to think we all have a bit of Debbi’s spunk in us.
Debbi was one of the most formidable and passionate people I've ever met. She stood for what she knew to be right at every opportunity and she gave of herself to every cause she believed in (and there were many). Debbi was absolutely devoted to her community, her family, her art, her profession, and her Judaism. It was an honor and privilege to serve as her rabbi for my years at Emanu-El, and especially to get to travel to Israel with her back in 2014. I'm attaching a few photos of Debbi from the trip.
